Tenet Healthcare Corporation announced today that Florida Medical Center will merge with North Shore Medical Center. The merger will be effective on June 1, 2009. Both campuses will remain open and continue functioning as normal, with no expected reduction in services at either hospital.
“Merging Florida Medical Center and North Shore Medical Center enables us to capitalize on synergies to provide better, more efficient care to the communities we serve,” said Marsha Powers, Tenet’s regional senior vice president for Florida. “We will be able to more effectively recruit specialized physicians, share service line expertise and consolidate back-office operations.”
Each hospital has specific service lines where they excel in quality patient care and outcomes, and the merger will allow the two hospitals to share this expertise and expand available services at both locations. North Shore is highly respected for its radiation oncology, neonatology and women’s services, while Florida Medical Center is known for its quality cardiac, oncology and bariatric services.
The two hospitals plan to develop unified physician credentialing, which will allow physicians to more easily apply for privileges and treat patients at both hospitals.
Tenet Healthcare Corporation, through its subsidiaries, owns and operates acute care hospitals and related ancillary health care businesses, which include ambulatory surgery centers and diagnostic imaging centers. Tenet is committed to providing high quality care to patients in the communities we serve.
