Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. (“Bio-Imaging”) today announced that it has appointed Peter S. Benton as President of its Phoenix Data Systems (“PDS”) Division. PDS is a leading global clinical data services provider of electronic data capture (“EDC”) services offering a comprehensive array of broadly interoperable eClinical data solutions to its pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers. Mr. Benton will succeed Dr. William Claypool, who is leaving PDS to start a pharmaceutical development consulting company, Pennmark Associates, LLC.
Mr. Benton has over twenty years of experience, within and beyond the pharmaceutical research industry, across operations, management, strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions. Most recently, he was chief operating officer of a publicly traded eClinical technology services company, where he was responsible for overall operations including project management, applications development, quality control, customer support and technology integration. Mr. Benton’s life sciences experience includes founding and operating his own firm which provided consulting, advisory and investment services to early stage therapeutic, medical device and technology companies. Previously, Mr. Benton was associated with Johnson and Johnson’s Pharmaceutical business, where he served as vice president of central planning. Mr. Benton’s experience includes general management experience at TRW, Inc.’s automotive sector and General Electric, where he started his career in the manufacturing management program. Mr. Benton holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
“Peter brings a wealth of general management and strategic corporate development experience to our organization”, commented Mark Weinstein, President and CEO of Bio-Imaging. “We are very pleased to welcome Peter to our senior management team and believe that Peter possesses the domain experience and leadership skills necessary to strategically position the company in the rapidly growing eClinical market.”
“I am pleased to join PDS, which has an excellent reputation, an outstanding management team and is strategically well positioned with a comprehensive suite of eClinical products and services”, stated Peter Benton. “I look forward to continuing the leadership that Dr. Claypool has brought to the company and to working closely with the PDS team to advance the organization during this very important time in its development. The global EDC market is growing rapidly, and I believe PDS has an excellent platform to support significant growth and expansion by helping its pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers streamline the clinical research process and assist its clients in bringing drugs to market faster and more safely.”
